Shared internet connection between computers?

I have a USB modem hooked to my laptop and am connected to the internet. Is it possible for me to run an ethernet cable from my laptop to another device to get that device connected also? If so how is the best method for that? I know a pretty good bit about computers but this is kinda a hassle for me. I'm running Vista on my laptop.

you can use either a hub...or a router to connect both PCsto the hub/router with the hub/router connected ot ht emodem allowing you to use both simultaneoulsy.

Or you can set up your laptop as a gateway that your desktop can use to access the itnerenet.

Ony thng baout htis set up is that thelaptop always has to be on when the desktop wants to access the internet.

START %26gt; PROGRAMS %26gt; ACCESSORIES %26gt; COMMUNICAITONS %26gt; SET up NEW netowrk connection

It will walk you through setting your laptop as a gateway .

Not without a router.
Use a Hub to interconnect all these peripherals
yes you can do that, your laptop will act as a server (internet server) on you small local area. But the downfall of that is the internet speed you get from your modem will decrease, bcoz it will be divided into to.

Lets say if your download speed on your laptop only is 100MHz, if you link another computer, download speed on both units will be 50MHz only.

Best way to go is buy a router or switch, the download speed will not be distrubuted but will be mirrored to all units, speed on the router will be the same all through out all units. Also the smallest router has 4 ports, so you can actually expand in the future. If its a wireless router the better
