It's more a matter of how good you are in a given field and how much experience you have, rather than which field in particular. The very most senior-level programmers typically earn 120k+, whereas entry-level programmers in the same language might only earn 45.

Same with networking. Senior systems administrators for large networks can earn 120-150k+, while IT support just starting out as technicians only earn 40-50.

The examples go on and on. The main point to take away is that "computers" is not a get-rich-quick industry, despite what the media may have you believe. It works very much the same as every other career - the more time and experience you accrue, the more opportunities and higher pay you will receive.

As far as easy to learn - that depends on what you enjoy. If you like something and it's interesting to you, it will be easy to learn. If not, it will be very difficult to learn. Take some entry level courses on programming, networking, hardware and see what you enjoy the most.

Easiest I think is networking if your hands on person and always need to be doing something if your patient then programming would be your best bet either one pays well it all depends on the company size and the education you have going into both. You can make good money in either fields depending on how much education you receive...........I wouldn't go for money it doesn't make you happy go for what you love either being hands on with computers doing networking and repairs or setting up software and writing with programming
its between security and networking, but to get the major bucks takes years of learn like cisco, doing ccna, ccne. and the same for secuirty, eg u will need to know firewalls, virus programs backwards, including voip, sql etc.

1. I kinda learned it myself... I disassembled some really old computers and assemble them back a long time ago only because i was bored.

2. Its cheaper to buy a prebuilt one, only if its a basic computer. If your going to build a powerful machine or atleast a GOOD machine, then its better to build your own since its cheaper and better quality. I'm never going back to buying a prebuilt PC because its cheaper and FUN.

in fact there is a lot that the kids using proxys dont know - when you use a proxy site to view any site that you have to log into, the owner of the proxy site then has your login information which they can then use to hack your profile, or sell to spammers

I you can afford a iMac you should get one. They are very stable and Apple supports their products for a long time and has great customer service. If you get a Mac you could order one off Apples online store. However, you should wait a week because apple is getting ready to refit their Macbook with a faster processor and bigger hard drive. If you are getting a MacPro, then order one whenever you are ready as these were updated a while ago.

If an Apple is not an option I would recommend buying an HP or Sony. Look for atleast 2-3 gigs of RAM and 250 - 350 gig Hard drive, a web cam, Windows Vista Home Premium and a processor around 2 ghz with a cd rad/ rewrite and dvd read/ rewrite drive. These are all fairly common features right now and should not cost that much. HP includes all these features in an 800-1000 USD price range. I would advise going to purchase one in-store and at a nationally known electronics store.

Yes they are harmful to the human body. I have all of trudeau's books so I am familiar with him, and I agree with him. Cell phones can hard boil an egg in one hour, think what it will do to the brain. The main risk is cellular degeneration which with prolonged exposer will lead to disease. If exposed long enough the DNA will be permanently damaged, that is defenently not good. The only reason that computers are harmful is because they use an electro magnet device to power the screen, which emits the radiation. You want to at least stay around two feet from the screen to the body, or a full arm length. Laptops make you sit closer then tower PC's. You can buy computer monitors that emit no radiation, they are expensive but worth it. NASA even uses non EMR monitors, because they understand that radiation reduces cognitive abilities.

The cell phone companies have spent over one hundred million dollars on research on radiation shielding technology, so when people say it doesn't harm the body then why on earth would they spend so much money researching EMF shielding technology. There are products that help block electromagnetic radiation, I own a couple of them and its on myself all day long, I even keep them on my headboard to protect me while i am sleeping. You should research Dr. George Carlo, the cell phone companies hired him to disprove that cell phones were harmless, but his research overwhelmingly proved that they were very harmful to the body. When the cell phone companies found out they offered him a one million dollars a year salary to keep him quiet, he refused, he figured people's lives were more important then money. I run only HP. I've delt with Dell, Gateway, Compact, and Toshibia's, and in my personal opinion, the HP is the best performance for the price. I tend to run the Walmart standard systems and just upgrade video card, and ram as needed.

Best brand names are: Toshiba, HP, and maybe Dell. Note that most laptops can be consumer (Cheaper) or business brands. Yes, as all computers are sharing the bandwidth you get from your internet service provider. Unless it's a dial up at 56k, you probably won't notice with just 2 computers. It will work fine.
What you say is very true, but this also dependent upon the server you are connecting that transmits the data to your computer, too. Two computer will not be a big concern at all with high speed Internet connection. You may experience some short slower transmission, but in general, the speed won't be too bad.

Your Internet connection has a limited amount of bandwidth, so for each computer that is accessing the connection, the slower the connection is goign to seem. Depending on the type of connection that you have, though, 3 machines should not create that much of a slow down, you might see slow down if you were trying to watch or play streaming video or music or download things all at once, but for normal browsing, I wouldnt think it would be a problem.

Since Vista is the later OS, it's format may not be understood by XP. If the file was created on XP you might stand more chance, but with Microsoft there are no guarantees. Alternatively you could create a small database on one machine and make this available to the other.

Hubs do not manage any of the traffic that comes through them. You need a router. A router would give a different distinct internal IP address to each device that you plug into it.

It depends on how many IP addresses were assigned to you by your ISP. If there is only one address assigned for your hosts then you are going to get the conflict you mentioned. To avoid this, purchase a router. They are cheap anymore. Connect the modem to the router and the computers to the router. Make the router a DHCP "server".

The problem is that you're using a hub, when you need to be using a router.

A hub is a simple repeater. A router is a device for connecting networks together.

Use a basic ethernet router instead of a hub and it should work fine.

To close a program.

Press the [Alt] button then use the Down Arrow keys to scroll down to Exit.

These are call keyboard short cuts, most programs have them, to see and learn them, use the mouse and go through a progams menu bar, in the drop-down lists you'll see the keyboard short cut for an action.

For example, open Internet Explorer, click Edit in the menu bar, you see Paste Ctrl + V

So press the Ctrl key plus the V key and this will paste.

Don't expect any clearances on Windows Vista for awhile, and the reason being that it is not tested fully. If you are looking for a computer with Windows XP then all you have to do is to go onto eBay. New computers sold are going to have the Vista automatically installed.
Do not expect any great deals on computers. Most computers in operation right now are not capable of running Vista, only 15% are, so the retail outlets will be making their money on sales of new computers, not Vista sales. So, do not expect any sales until Thanksgiving.
It will most likely be due to the outdated hardware rather than having XP instead of Vista.

Most manufacturers are simply offering free upgrades to Vista on all recently built units shipped with XP.

Personally... I think that's the best deal of all ... you get to choose and aren't stuck with only XP Pro or only Vista.

I've always been under the impression that a bigger RAM and a larger HD will increase performance...but after looking at the specs for your PC, I don't see what else you can do really. I think you needed to include what it is you want your computer to do that it's not doing in your question...that would make it easier to answer your question.

Everything looks great as far as the hardware. You may want to look into getting a dvd/rw or something of that but as far as I can see you are running a sharp computer. Make sure that your power box can handle all of this gear or you will find yourself having to replace that after it goes out and takes a few things with it. You can also prevent this by using a surge protector and do not plug that huge monitor on the same line as the computer and accessories.

My life? Well as a freelance graphic designer (specializing in web design and presentation work) who is married to a man with a masters in Computer Science (currently working as a high level programmer) and having 2 children who are largely self educating themselves on the computer and DVD player - I would be dramatically affected.

But when you think about how computers are vital in so many ways today - from cleaning water and providing electricity, to controling street lights and how we can get and use our money, I would say each and every one of us would be dramatically affected if we had no more computers.

Of course if we never had them, we would never miss them.

You will need a router or a hub to connect the machines. Since the cost is similar, even though you do not have broadband now, I would recommend you get a router if you choose to upgrade later on. Get a router with at least 4 ports in addition to the uplink or WAN port (but you won't use that one) and you will need to set up one of your machines as the dhcp server, router and dial up connection. If you are somewhat competent you could use Linux, but if you want simple use XP and turn on Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) There is a wizard to guide you through the setup. You can then turn on file sharing to access your local files. You will need to do that on all machines that will host files. WARNING - 4 machines on one dial up link will be painfully slow for anything other than text based applications.

If they are both Windows XP computers find the driver for a USB cable on the internet. Or, just install your old harddrive as a slave into your new computer. That is what I usually do.
So can you map a drive in windows explorer (windows explorer not internet explorer). can you go inot windows explorer and see the other drive??? Mapping if required means knowing the name of the other system (one is called MINE and the newer called FASTER or whatever you named them) and doing F: = \\mine\c.

You may have to setup each drive as shared so goto winows explorer highlight the drive and use the menus to find sharing and make the drive a shared and call it c (or whatever name you want) .

I use a hub or router to connect so it is a network and just share the drive i want access to and used windows explorer to look for it and call it a drive letter and then open it in windows explorer and move the files to the system i want.

No, DSL goes through the phone line, which is susceptible to noise interference. Most DSL modems require that you put filters on all phone outlets to minimize this noise. So if you were to plug a second DSL modem into another phone line it would cause interference. It depends what virus and where it is on the system. If it is a virus such a Trojan these are very "contagious" and will most likely find it's way into the new system.

If I where you I would eliminate the virus on the laptop and then transfer the files.

If you do not have a router it may not work. If you have installed the router and connected it to one computer then it should be OK. Read your instruction manual or visit the companies website for troubleshooting information. I do not think you can connect one computer to another without by just using two wireless adapters although I'm not sure- make sure ad hoc mode is enabled anyway (through the connection settings).

You should have a shared folder on one of the computers to SEE.

Be sure that you set the WORKGROUP name the same.

Browse through your Network Neighborhood... Entire Network... You should see TWO computers in that network group.

Try disabling your FIREWALL on both computers temporarilly. Maybe that is a part of the problem.

To setup wireless router on my DSL or Modem Cable.

First you need a network cables which we go from you modem to your PC and a router.

Make sure you get the blue network cable for your connection.

Have one cable connect from your modem to your router which specify base on the router instructions.

Have another cable connects from your router to the PC. But once you router is connected to your modem you should be able to connect wireless to any PC who has wireless adapter. Also you can add two or more computer to your network through your wireless router.

You may be thinking of a splitter. I am not sure if that works for internet modems.
The simplest and cheapest, and maybe the best way to connect 2 computers to one DSL modem would be with your basic 10/100 switch. If the DSL modem does not have any spare ports on it then you would run the CAT5 cable from the DSL modem to the switch and then simply plug both PCs into the switch using CAT5 patch cables.
