What do they do with the old computers?

What do you think most schools do with the old computer? my school is replacing the 24 IBM computers in my library with new dell ones so i was wondering what do they do with the old ones? and is it a good idea to ask for one or 2 (need to use something as a cheap server)

but as for my college, they sold 'em %26gt;.%26lt;" and unusable broken ones are in the storage room and some are thrown away...

wouldn't hurt to ask them, not really sure what happens to them but they usually get scrapped out to be recycled in someways
They usually can't just give them away because they were purchased with tax dollars. Usually they are given credit when they buy the new ones or they can auction them off.
In most cases they go to get refurbished and sent on to charity or developing countries.

Put simply they wipe with magnets, spring clean and re-use.

If you want one I reccomend you say you will give a little donation to charity. Makes sense and everyones a winner.
Can't hurt to ask.

Sometimes they literally throw them away.
