Can I connect two computers together and share information without internet connection?

I have a laptop and a desktop. I want to connect them and share the information on them between the two, but I have dial up and no way to connect both computers to the internet at the same time...

Any ideas?

I have the following: 4 port usb hub, linksys router (not in use with dial up) crossover cable plus the bridge for it, ....

Please help!

Most routers have 4 or more connections for clients. Just connect both PC's to the router. You do not need a phone/cable connection.

Configure PC 1 with the following IP address info:

IP 192.168.1.1

Subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Gateway 192.168.1.2

Configure PC 2:

IP 182.168.1.2

Mask 255.255.255.0

Gateway 192.168.1.1

That should work...if the router has no additional ports you can also use a Crossover network cable available in all good PC stores.

yes. when doing the setup... choose the option. THIS COMPUTER DOES NOT HAVE AN INTERNET CONNECTION to configure locally
As long as both computers have a network plug, you don't need the router. Just run your crossover cable between the two. Then just run the network setup wizard from the network connections folder in the control panel.
