I'm 29, relatively smart, and need a new job. i would love to get into computers and know i'd be able to wrap my mind around it. what particular courses should i take? which area is growing? where's the best place to start? what pays good? life needs to get good again, Thanks!

Depends on what field you want to go into. You can take computer programming and learn a lot of languages such as, c++, java, html, asp.net, You can take computer engineer courses in which you design computer chips. There are many different areas you can get into. There are also computer networking and computer security such as cryptography. If you want to learn basics skills take: visual basics, Microsoft excel, Microsoft word etc.. For the advance fields in computers you most likely need a degree.

You should take something in programing, software and hardware at least.
You should beable to explain to some one who is not around computers offten what a CPU, RAM, ROM, Motherboard, and the various drives are used for and how they do it.
