Region one DVDs - will they work on computers?

I want to order "Journeys with George" in the UK, but as it is American it is locked onto Region One unless you have a Region Free DVD player.

Are the DVD players built into computers Region Free (i.e. will it work on a UK computer as opposed to DVD player?)

Not simple.

Depends on your OS - if you have MS type OS, then you can get SW that will change the region code in SW easily and many times. Similar things exist for other OSes.

Some drives will only let you change them a few times, then they are 'locked' to the last selection - this is usually the case in normal 'single region' 'DVD players', but did not use to be the case for PCs - but who knows if the manufacturers have been bullied? However in Australia, this was ruled illegal, so new ones have to be 'region free' - you can get the codes to unlock older ones.
