Where I work, new computers (mainly dell) come in all the time. Our current system is to go pick them up, back up old computers to a NAS, image both the old for trickledown and new with either xp or vista, office '03 or '07, whichever the client wants, then restore the data on the new one and deliver. Would all of this be feasable and reliable using RIS? We are working on a domain with DHCP registration. We don't really work in bulk, but cater to the needs of the client. What about driver installation? Would bandwidth usage be a large issue?
Thanks.
Is remote installation to set up new computers worth the trouble?virus
Probably not, considering that bandwidth usage would indeed be a large issue. The connection that your clients have would also be a large issue - if they use a 56k dial-up modem, it's doing to take a while for you to complete everything, while you're using up a good chunk of bandwidth. I do something similar to your current system, having tried remote before, and I've gotta say it's easier just grab and drop-off.
