I need to have Internet access for 3 desktop computers, what should i use?

I have an Att internet connection(DSL), and we have 3 desktop computers, what can I use to get internet on all three computers. I have a Speedstream 4100 modem, which i purchased from ATT. I was going to buy a wireless router, but I do not want to buy the wrong one. I am not very knowledgable when it comes to computers, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any good WIFI router will work. I tend to stay away from D-link. They seem to be kinda bottom end of the market.

The normal set up is: Run a cat5 cable from your modem to ther router. Run another cat5 cable to the closest computer. Install WIFI cards in the other computers. That should do it.

A word of advice. Be sure to read the manuals that come with this equipment. Most WIFI cards want their drivers installed prior to physically installing the card. Also read the section on encrypting your signal because you will be "broadcasting" this signal out to about 500 or so feet, and than can allow unwanted connection to your internet signal by anyone with a WIFI capable device such as a laptop.

Also, by using a WIFI router you will be able to set up a home network wherein file can be shared between the seperat systems. This can be very handy.

I set up my network a couple of years ago and am very very happy that I did.
