Sound disconnected on company computers?

I need a good troubleshooter her to help me restore sound to the company computers. Previous boss disconnected sound, and I need remedies because I don't know how he did it. The sound utilities all say that the sound is correct. Internal speakers say engaged. What are the other options. There are no external speakers attached. It's a pair of Compaq mainframes with Windows XP installed. I can't open the units (they belong to the company) to see if the sound card has been pulled. Any options? Thanks for the help.

Huh....

The only way I know of to disable sound through Group Policy is to hide the control panel for it. But you say that is there and the volume is up. If not email and I'll tell you where to turn that hide off. You need a Domain Admin password.

The last time I needed to do it, we just took the speakers out of the department that was having the issue. If I had full access to your server, I might have just unplugged them. I know, you can't check this, but the hardware way might not have been that elegant, but it would have been easy.

Is it possible the sound driver is just disabled?

Start -%26gt; Right Click My Computer -%26gt; Properties -%26gt; Hardware -%26gt; Device Manager -%26gt; Enable
Sounds like you don't have a sound card. Or should I say it doesn't sound like you have a sound card.
there is a cable on the inside that goes from the cd player to the sound card. if thats gone you cant listen to music.
