The first mp3 encoder was released to the public on July 7th 1994. The first mp3 player software (Winplay3) became available on Sept 9, 1995.

June 1985 the first CD-ROM were released and they could play music via a 3.5mm jack socket on the front and had an analogue output to feed your sound card.



MP3 came much later and certainly wasn't the first route to playing music on a PC
