If the two computers are connected together via a hub or switch, you can use Microsoft's Internet Connection Sharing feature. Instructions can be found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310563

If they are not connected together already then it becomes really difficult and I'm not sure I know of anything that would be cost effective to allow the sharing.

The main task at hand is that you need something to tell the single phone line where to send the information - computer 1 or computer 2. Microsoft's built in Internet Connection Sharing in Windows XP is free and will work as long as the two computers have a network card installed and connected together by a hub with the proper networking setup. The link above should describe everything you need and the cost of the hardware is negligible - %26lt; $50 - $100

I think you could use one modem but you need a signal splitter.

BTW if your using the internet on both computers at the same time its going to be so slow you can feel your hair growing.
You'll need another phone line for your house. When one computer is dialed in, the other computer won't get a dial tone and won't dial.
You can use an ethernet NIC in both machines configured with static IP address to connect the machines.

Then you right click on your dial up internet connection and under the properties menu select to share the connection.
