We are going to switch from DSL to Cable internet. My mother thinks it will be just as easy as hooking up cable TV where they come and put a few cables in and we connect the computers.
Don't they have to be .."networked" somehow and I'd need a router?
I rather go buy this myself than pay the cable companies prices.

The cable company has to provide a box (modem) and you connect to this. You will need to buy a router to connect to it if you want to use multiple machines.
you just need a router. most routers allow you to network up to 4 computers. it's simple to install yourself. and you can get one from walmart for about $50. Linksys is a good brand.
Just go out and buy a router, and hook it up using the WEP key, which you have to search for(its a nmber you use to accses the router. I have a 2Wire router, and I know the WEP key can be found on one of the feet of it.
well networkiong isnt very hard and u mother can ask the cable company to put a line in each room that has a computer so that they dont need to share or just buy a router and it commes with instructions but while the cable guy is there ask him to help u connect to two computers and he'll tell u what to buy and how to set it up also ask what type of router would be best for ur computers and for the modem
Get a router for 20 quid and your sorted!
